Working Definitions

Sikhi

The Guru-guided pursuit of spiritual (Piri) and political (Miri) liberty (Azaadi).

Spirituality

Acts through which the ego seeks to transcend duality and recognise the underlying non-duality of existence (Ik Onkaar / “God”). In this recognition, one becomes liberated from the perceived opposites of pleasure and suffering — just as without an independent reference point, there is neither up nor down.

Politics

Politics consists of acts undertaken within duality, where individuals and groups participate in the world’s apparent separations in order to shape outcomes. It concerns the acquisition, exercise, and distribution of power — including the capacity to organise, command, and direct labour, resources, and institutions toward particular objectives.

Khalsa

The Khalsa is a sovereign political order composed of spiritualists, oriented toward the pursuit of liberty, justice, and sovereignty, and the contestation of tyranny, oppression, and injustice. It adorns a distinct aesthetic symbolising that upon spiritual foundations a royal and warrior ethos is established.

Khalsa Raaj

An environment safeguarded by the Khalsa in which those seeking spiritual liberty (Mukti) can do so in peace, free from tyranny and oppression (political liberty).

The Azadism Project

Azadism introduces a framework to promote the flourishing and prosperity of existing and/or hypothetical States. The Azadist Manifesto outlines the world's first political-economic philosophy of Azadism as a alternative to authoritarianism and central-planning.

Combining both Sikh principles and Economic theory, the Azadist Manifesto aims to bring these concepts to the attention of the Guru Khalsa Panth and the wider Sangat so that we may form appropriate strategies to establish Khalsa Raaj, legally, ethically and effectively. This is an attempt at outlining a detailed vision of what Azaadi looks like when applied in reality and its eventual full implication.

Our Institutions

Bunga Azaadi

Bunga Azaadi (Institute for Azadist Studies) is a think tank set up to discuss, debate and share the necessary Vichaars (contemplations / research / opinions) to apply a Sikh perspective to the modern world. With the rapid rate of innovations in technology and a constantly changing geo-political landscape, it is imperative that the Guru Khalsa Panth is conscious and evaluating the world around us to keep up to date. Bunga Azaadi produces and curates Vichaars from a network of individuals passionate about using Sikhi to inform our positions so to navigate these changing times and make informed decisions moving forward.

Toshakhana-i-Azaadi
